Summer Retreat

This is my little summer retreat. It is in the back yard in a little corner under a big maple tree. I love it! It is so pleasant and stays nice and cool.

I made a little cover for the hammock by sewing pieces of two sheets together and adding some ties to the edges so I could tie it in place on the hammock. The rope of the hammock can be a little uncomfortable on your skin, mainly on my arms. The cover is much softer and kinda cute I think!

I made a little bag to mach that I can tie on to hold my phone, sunglasses, or whatever. The cover fits inside when it is all folded up.

This is the "junk" my Love accused me of dragging into the yard, but I like it.

What is your favorite summer retreat???

Some galvanized tubs, an old shutter, an old fence post, watering can, and some flowers.

This is my view.

Along with this view of the barn!

As you can tell I have been enjoying my summer!
How have you been enjoying your summer?? Would love to know!!

This into That

My friend was given this for her son who never had the chance to wear it so she wanted her little girl to wear it and asked if I could do something about it.

So I turned it into this...

Pretty cute I think and very easy!!!

Bed Coverlet

Now that summer has arrived I had really been wanting a new bed cover. We had a tan colored bed spread that is perfect for winter. Super fluffy and warm. We don't have air conditioning in our house so it tends to get warm during the summer. We have a window unit for the bedroom when it gets unbearable, but to be honest, I love having my windows open and feeling the breeze even if it is a little warm.
So, for that reason I decided to make myself a new coverlet. I guess that's what you call it. It's not a quilt or a duvet.
It's a little wrinkly because we've been using it, but it is perfect for summer.
I had bought this fabric a few months ago when I went to the quilt show. I wanted to make something quick and easy. Something that didn't take much thought. So, I had six yards of fabric, I cut them in half length wise and sewed them all together. I added a 6 inch border along two ends to make it not so square.
I backed it with an old flat sheet I had. Sewed the two pieces together and turned right side out and top stitched.
It turned out good. I'm happy with it anyway.
The walls are a mint green color and the fabric has blue and green in it. I love blue and wanted to accent with it. I will have to find more ways to add blue in.

What's Been Going On...

So I have the computer up and running and just uploaded some pictures. I am having a little bit of trouble getting use to a laptop. I have used them many times but having it for my everyday stuff is a little different. Anyways, here are a few things that I have been working on...

My friend's baby shower was this week so I made her a little something. A Diaper clutch changing pad, Laundry bag, and burp cloth.

I also have several vintage cook books. I love the old cook books, with the pictures of the housewives in their aprons. I always find good recipes that are a little different than what you see today.
This one is from my mom. I remember using it when I was younger.

I made this Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe and it is very good. I had used it once before. I always try and write the date that I made a recipe and any comments that I have in the book. That way I know if it is worth making again.
Yummy! I think you could wrap anything in a cellophane bag, add a cute ribbon and you have turned something simple into something simply adorable!
These are for  a friend who is recovering from knee surgery!

I mentioned last week before the big crash of the computer, that I was watching my sister's kiddos and their puppy. I love a puppy but this is why I'm not ready for another one yet...

Uh, yeah....i guess he was bored! They spent $25 bucks on this nice doggy bed and he shredded it!
I had to laugh! This is what puppy's do!
But isn't he so cute!!

Sew Busy...

I have been busy sewing lately. I have these gifts I want to make. One of my projects is for my friend who is having a baby girl this week! I made her these pillows per her request...

These pillows were pretty easy. The strap of color is not attached to the main pillow case so it can be removed for future use.

The main pillow case is a simple envelope style case.

They match this bedroom perfectly!!

This is the cool part...

I was laying on the floor taking this picture of the ceiling.

Isn't this the coolest thing ever!!! Her baby girl is going to love this!

Quilts Show

I started writing this post on Tuesday...today I finally found my pictures!!

Well, I sit here with the sun shinning and warmth trying to push the cold out. The sun feels wonderful!
However I have not got much done today due to a stomach virus that seems to have touched my side of the family. We were all together Monday evening and now many of us are sick! Not fun. My food for the day...Popsicle!

Anyways, over the weekend I had the opportunity to go to the International Quilt Festival with my friend Amanda. She is my only sewing friend...other than my sister, but my sissy doesn't have much time to sew. I'm pretty sure we were the youngest girls there! Here are a few pictures from our day! It was quite fun but it did not help with my fabric obsession by any means!

This is a quilt! Can you believe it! There is even  shadowing from the barn roof  on the barn! Crazy!

Love these pastel colors. The vintage fabrics are my favorite!

Super soft quilt.

Love this giant wood bowl full of thread!! A feast for the eyes!

 Very Patriotic..

Red and White...I'm in Love!

Loveliness...

These are all vintage blue fabrics!!

I love the detail on this one..

Beautiful colors. I love all the colors of fabric!

Ok, you can't really tell but this quilt is nothing but tiny little squares. It's from the 1920's!! I'm not that patient.

This is the view from above, to the left...

to the right...huge!

A view of the city.

Pretty displays were everywhere...

What a fun way to spend a rainy day!!

Sewing Projects

I have been working on some baby gifts for my 10 million friends that are pregnant...ok maybe its just 6 friends that are pregnant. Anyway, I have one gift done..
This is a small blanket and a laundry bag.
I have been making laundry bags and they seem to be a good gift that I can make in like 15-20 minutes!
The little blanket is fleece on one side and flannel on the other.

I added these little hearts to two of the corners.
These are pretty simple projects that don't take long. I love handmade things!

(Sorry these pictures aren't very good. The lighting kinda stinks)
