Mystery Solved!!
Missing Chickens....I posted awhile back about my chickens that kept disappearing and we couldn't figure out why! Yesterday my 8 chickens (7 hens 1 rooster) were out and about enjoying the sunshine. I was standing in the kitchen and looked back into the field toward the chicken house and saw white feathers floating in the breeze across the field. I thought I better go back and make sure they were ok.
I get back there and there were feathers everywhere. White and black ones. Feathers that belonged to my giant Plymouth Barred Rock rooster! He was no where to be found...I found the hens and there were only 6 of them!!
The hens are never without there mighty protector so I knew....he was gone! I asked the neighbors on the left if they had seen anything, They are in there 70's and always home and piddling in the yard. He said he had seen the dog that belongs to the neighbor on the right back there by the house.
I ran over to the edge of the property to see if I could see him (the dog that belongs to the neighbor on the right) out, as he is always lurking around, I really don't like that dog, and there he was with my giant, beautiful, mean, rooster in his mouth!!! Oh, the disgust!!
We went over to talk to the neighbor on the right and tell him what has been happening. He told us that he had seen his dog with another chicken before. However, he never bothered to tell us about it until now!! He also told us that his dog killed one of the other neighbors goats!! I think he scared it to death. He said he is working on getting an invisible fence! Not soon enough is you ask me!
So now I am down to 6 chickens. I started out with 14 three weeks ago. I went back to the hen house today, I am not letting them out until neighbor on the right gets a fence, and bless their little hearts everyone of those ladies had laid an egg. After their traumatic experience they are still little troopers!
Mr. Rooster, he was so pretty to look at and I loved to hear him crow. He never woke anyone up in the morning because he was far enough away and our neighbors aren't real close. Those things I will miss.
However he did have one downfall, he was downright mean!! He had spurs on him that were over an inch long and he tried to use them every chance he got! Once he chased my mom across the yard while she was screaming and flailing a broom at him. Needless to say she never took care of them again for us!! What I wouldn't give to have that on tape! You could not turn your back on him or he was on you like stink on a hog!
So, good by Mr. Rooster. You were a good protector of your ladies, you even gave your life for them!
Oh yeah, I just wanted to make sure you know how much I dislike the neighbor's on the right dog. That is why in the above paragraph I made the words, I really don't like that dog, in bold. Just so I'm clear on that!

Sewing Projects
I have been working on some baby gifts for my 10 million friends that are pregnant...ok maybe its just 6 friends that are pregnant. Anyway, I have one gift done..
This is a small blanket and a laundry bag.
I have been making laundry bags and they seem to be a good gift that I can make in like 15-20 minutes!
The little blanket is fleece on one side and flannel on the other.
I added these little hearts to two of the corners.
These are pretty simple projects that don't take long. I love handmade things!
(Sorry these pictures aren't very good. The lighting kinda stinks)

Seed Starting...
So today I had time to finally start the seeds for my garden! This is how it goes....
I buy this at Lowe's for about $6.
Follow the directions on the box. Basically you add warm water and break up the dirt. I use a fork because it works really well.
Then I put my seeds in and gently cover them up!
This holds 72 plants!
These are some of my seeds. I bought these last year and will have enough to last me through next year!
I really love this seed catalog. Territorial Seed Company. I have had great results with them. They have a lot of heirloom and open pollinated options! I love trying plants that are a little different or odd!
On the list this year...Cherokee Purple Tomatoes, Chocolate Cherry Tomatoes, and lots more!!!
Check out the web site here.
I also posted the recipe for Puppy Chow on the Farm Kitchen page!
I forgot to take pictures of what I made, sorry. I will try to get to that tomorrow.

Rain, Rain, Go Away..
Spring is definitely here! It has been raining all day! Like pouring...however the temperature is warmer! I guess I'll take the rain then.. It is rather peaceful. We have a metal roof and in certain parts of the house the sound is lovely and serene.
I have been doing my normal Monday stuff, laundry and grocery, and am trying to get up the gumption to go dust the living room. The wood floors in there are really embarrassing. Can you say dust bunnies..more like full grown rabbits!
My sweet tooth has been getting the best of me the last few weeks. Not good at all. So today I made this..
Puppy Chow! It's an easy, yummy, sweet, homemade treat!
Made with one of my favorite combination, chocolate and peanut butter!
FIY, when making this, be very careful when you go to put it in a cute, glass jar...the powdered sugar can make your kitchen floor very messy. Along with your pant leg. Luckily not very much ended up on the floor! I'm sure the dust rabbits will enjoy it..they live in the kitchen too!
I will show you what I made tomorrow! Lord willing and the creek don't rise, which is a possibility with all this rain!
I'm linking up!

Fabric..Oh.My.Word.
I have shared my obsession for fabric in the past....I have been cleaning and organizing my upstairs and craft/sewing stuff. Well today I finally got to the tubs of fabric that have been sitting around waiting to be put into a dresser I am using for storage. I emptied out the tubs of fabric onto the table....
Seriously!!!
I have way too much fabric. I have been saving some old sheets, t-shirts, and such. I have woven fabric, flannel, baby, calico print, fleece, oilcloth, etc. etc. etc.
I have great plans for some of this fabric and some I have had for a very long time!
I have a hope chest full of blue jeans 99% of them belonged to my husband and have holes in them from wear. I am saving those to make a quilt for each of our children someday, when we decide to have children.. I will probably be able to myself a quilt out of them as well.
I finally got some time to sew a little bit...show you later!
My love affair with fabric continues.....
Happy weekend!

Just a Thougth..
Sorry for the delay in posting. We have had a crazy week. My lovers Grandmother has been in the nursing home recovering from her surgery she had several weeks ago. My lover has been remodeling her bathroom making it handicap accessible. We have been finishing it up and cleaning all week and finally brought her home today! Can I just say...I'm worn out!!
Grandma is so glad to be home and I can't blame her one bit!
I hope everyone is ready for a great weekend! I haven't had a chance to do any sewing. My fabric is patiently waiting for me on a chair in the livingroom.
Boy, I sure could use a big chocolate brownie with nuts and icecream right about now...just a thought!
