Farm Style Table

A week or so ago I had a ladies brunch at my church. They called it a Birthday Bash. They had 12 tables, one for each month, and each table was decorated by a different lady. You sat at your birthday month table unless you were hosting a table. I had the August table. To me August is all about canning and harvesting from the garden. Since I had plenty of blue canning jars...this is what I came up with....

Obviously I am not a photographer, but this gives you an idea.
I used all things that I had around the house except for the flowers.
Caning jars were used as drinking glasses tied with a piece of fabric, 1/2 gallon blue jars were used as flower vases, a vintage tablecloth, old jars filled with beans and grandpas marbles, a chalk board offers a welcome message, mini loaves of zucchini bread wrapped in parchment and tied with a string as favors, and glass dishes that I bought at a garage sale last year.

I had fun doing this! Maybe this will give someone an idea or two!

Days Like These

This time of year the weather is so wonderful. It has been beautiful even the rain is welcome. Here are some pictures that I took the other evening from behind the barn.

The chickens love veggie scraps

I love to see freshly mowed grass and thesky was so pretty.

Our sea of cattails. They have taken over this year.

I love being outside but I especially enjoy it this time of year. God gave us creation for His glory and our joy.
Tonight we have a full moon  outside and it is beautiful I hope you take the time to look at it. It reminds me of God's Glory and how GREAT He is!!
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Autumn

Can you feel the cool breeze that makes the leaves fall to the ground? Can you feel the warmth of a camp fire and a flannel shirt? Can you feel the sun fading earlier in the evenings?

Can you smell the apple cider and apple fritters? Chili simmering on the stove?

All these things I love! They are things that come around this time of year...Autumn, Fall, I love it.

After having a Saturday that broke a heat record, literally, Monday was a very cool 62 degrees. It was wonderful! It made me long for Fall that much more. God knew what He was doing when he created the seasons. He had us and our happiness in mind, He was always thinking of us and our needs.

By this time of year we are worn out! My love has been working a million hours and Saturdays and we have been so busy keeping everything up at home. "You have to make hay while the sun is shinin!" But wow we are ready for a break! The Lord knows that. That is why He created the different seasons, so that we could have a break and time to recuperate from the busyness of summer. We had a little taste of that yesterday and it was wonderful!

I hope all of you had a wonderful long weekend and are energized for the week ahead! I hope to soon have time to do some sewing. I have several projects in mind and can't wait to see them finished!

Speaking of Apple Fritters, does anyone know of a good recipe??

Pimento Cheese

I have been home most of the day and enjoyed the time so much after working all week. I spent all morning canning tomatoes and pizza sauce.  I will probably have another batch of pizza sauce to make this week. The tomatoes are still coming on. I'm thankful to have all these veggies from the garden but this time of year I'm ready to be done with it!

Pimento Cheese
I made this recipe last week and it was sooo yummy. I love all things cheese. This recipe was good with crackers, chips, veggies, pretzels, pretty much anything that can be dipped! It's a great appitizer to take to a party. Head on over to the farm kitchen page and the recipe will be waiting!!

Happy Weekend Everyone!!

I'm here...

Life is so busy. Today is the first day of school and work is crazy!!! Actually the last few weeks have been crazy. I usually don't work everyday but I am doing a long term position and WOW!! My hat goes off to all the full time working women out there. It is not easy working and then doing all of the home stuff too!!
Which I realize I'm a little spoiled. My love works so hard so that I don't have to. Have I mentioned that he is AMAZING and I LOVE him beyond anything that I could possibly explain!!!!

I am so thankful for my job. The people I work with are great and I enjoy it. I am blessed to be able to make my own schedule. However, my heart is at home. I love being a homemaker and taking care of my husband. I love making pies and cakes and cookies, cleaning, laundry, sewing, mowing grass, canning garden goodness. It is what God has made me to do and it brings me great joy to be a good steward with the home God has graciously provided me.

My love has been super busy as well. We have our own business so busy is good. We are pushing ourselves hard the next 6 weeks so we can really enjoy our break in October!!!

Anyways, I just wanted to let ya'll know I'm still here. I have so many things that I want to blog about!! Can't wait until life slows down a bit!! Hope all is well!!

I am currently eating this...
You can find the recipe on the Farm Kitchen page for Puppy Chow

Peaches Come from a Can.....

This is what my kitchen looked like yesterday....a MESS!!!
 I was canning peaches.

Ignore the ugly kitchen cabinets and walls in the background...
I had a bushel of north Carolina peaches to put up. They were so yummy!

I couldn't have gotten it all done without the help of my great mom!! She's the best. She has helped me pick beans too!!
 Freezer Jam

Peaches in light syrup

Peach and Pepper preserves

Out of one bushel of peaches I got...

13 half pints/jelly jar jam
9 half pints peach pepper preserves
13 pints frozen peaches
8 pints canned
1 peach cobbler
2 peach pies
6 rotten ones
18 ate fresh from the box

I do everything in pints because its just the two of us. Its a lot of work to do this but I enjoy it. It is very rewarding to me and I love having it over the next year!
I know you all are probably tired of hearing about my canning and preserving these last few post but that is my life right now. That and my day job.
This week....tomatoes......and more beans!
