Fabric Flowers

A few days ago I told my love that I just needed to be crafty. Do you every feel that way? You know, you just have to make something with your own two hands!!! I made these fabric flower pins. They are fairly easy..quick gratification...and I think pretty cute. You can make them whatever you want them to be!

These two I made from some fabric I bought last summer. I loved the fabric but didn't know what I wanted to do with it. Luckily there is still a good yard left.

These rosettes were left from the heart wreath that I made. I gave this one to my sissy for her birthday!!

This one I also gave to my sissy! I scrounged through my notions box and added some buttons, twill tape, whatever I could find that caught my attention. I think they turned out super cute! I wore the two brown calico ones on Sunday and received several compliments!

Happy weekend!
This kid is so darn cute.He is one of my Sis's kiddos!!

Favorite Things Friday!

I love old things...old houses and all the old fixtures in those houses. One of my favorites are old door knobs and hinges! They are so cool looking and I just so happen to have a few in this old house of mine!

Here is the door to our bedroom....this knob is porcelain. I love the whole knob assembly. It doesn't work real great as far as latching but we haven't really tried to do much with it since the door is opened 99% of the time. The door itself has this great crackle paint effect that is original. It is kinda dingy and more cream than white but I can't bring myself to paint it because it looks so neat!

This is the door into the office from the mudroom. this knob is also porcelain. It was covered in paint and the entire assembly was as well. My love took it apart and cleaned them up and this is what we got! Great right?!?!

This is the built-in corner cabinet in the mudroom, which I love. It's so fitting of an old house!

These are the hinges of the cabinet.
This is the before...

This is the after...

These are the latches. My love also took these off and spruced them up. I love these type of latches. These would be cool on like kitchen cabinets I think.

This is something that we made(I had the idea, I painted the board, my love put it all together for me). it is hanging in the bathroom and works great for our towels and different things. I was really excited about it!

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Well friends, how is everyone today? I have been thinking about being a homemaker....I am a homemaker and I love it so much. What a privilege it is to have a home to take of! There are so many people who are not blessed with a home and husband or family.

Sometimes I get tired of the everyday task around the house, laundry, dusting, sweeping the floor, the dirt that never seems to end!!! Fixing dinner every night..which lately my mind seems to be drawing a blank...but when I start to get irritated about all the responsibilities that I have here in my home the Lord always seems to remind me that I have a home to take care of and how blessed I am. Then all of a sudden this overwhelming thankfulness comes over me and I remember that everything I have is from the Lord. It belongs to the Lord and He has shown favor to me and has entrusted me with a wonderful home to take care of. What a Blessing!!

I take for granted what I have and what I am capable of doing. I have hands to clean with, legs to carry laundry with, eyes to see the cutting board...and it goes on and on.

Let us not take for granted what we have. Remember to be thankful for what we have...
I seen this video on another blog and thought it was unbelievable!!

Office Remodel

I mentioned in an earlier post about our office that we are working on...for the past 2 years...and put up some pictures of the framing and "bones" of the room. Here are some pictures of the room dry-walled and with three new windows!

This is looking into the office from the mudroom. There is a window next to the one you see here and then one window on the opposite wall. You can barely see the beam at the top of the picture, but it spans the room and is pretty cool looking.
This is standing in the office looking into the mudroom. This is an original outside wall and the siding was left on which I am really excited about. Since this picture we have primed the wall white and it looks so cool! The big white block above the door is actually an opening into the attic. We have a neat door that we found in this room that fits the opening perfect and will eventually go up there. The other hole you see is an old stove pipe hole. Not sure what we are going to do about that yet. I am so blessed to have a husband who can doing anything! And I mean anything...He has done all the wiring/electrical, dry-wall finishing, framing. He can do anything and I'm not just saying that because he is my husband and I think he is perfect...for me...
We have just been working on it as we get the money and time. We never have both at the same time.

I have very high hopes for this room! I will keep you updated as soon as something else gets done to this room...please don't old your breath...you may turn blue!

A Reminder of Spring

Hello my Friends...I hope everyone had a great day of rest!! I sure did! I got a nap in that lasted, I am ashamed to say, 3 hours!!! I must have needed it!
I was going through some of my pictures and found this from last spring...
A wild rose I picked from my yard!
I can't wait to have the bush outside my kitchen window bloom again! It makes the chore of doing dishes so much more enjoyable!
I also found this picture..
Homemade hamburger buns
I forgot I had made these! Doesn't a grilled hamburger on one of these fresh buns sound yummy?!?!?!
These were just a few reminders that Spring is just around the corner. I was thinking about that today with the pouring rain outside my window...

Also I posted our farm house story on the Farm House page. I apologize it's a little long and the pictures aren't that great..I hope to get updated ones soon!

Life Happened....

I am so sorry I didn't get to posting my Favorite Things Friday...Life happened and we spent the last few days  sitting in a hospital waiting room. All is well, we had two family members on my lover's side end up in surgery at the same time! Craziness I know. So needless to say Red Barn Revival was put on the back burner!
I promise to make it up to you!!

You may have noticed a few of my pages missing...that's because I am working on them and adding some stuff to them. They should be returning sometime next week!! Thanks for reading and posting comments! I really enjoy hearing from you!

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!

Just a Thought...

We have been doing a Bible study on Wednesday nights at our church on what God uses to grow your faith. This was on our handout a few weeks ago and I just really liked it.

"God builds our faith when we minister to others even though we feel inadequate and unprepared. We simply do what we know how to do, and trust God to do what only He can do."

"Personal ministry enables us to experience God's power in our weaknesses. We may feel unprepared, but these opportunities are incredibly rich experiences through which God grows our faith. At first, you may perform an act or personal ministry or service in order to benefit others. But if you're like most people, you'll soon come to feel that you're the one who benefits most."

I believe that everyone is a minister to someone. In your home, your job, school, different relationships...You may not be a preacher or pastor, but you are influencing someone in your life. You may not even know it! When you do branch out and try to be a blessing to others, you will see that you are the one who is truly being blessed.

What do you think your ministry is??

Pillow Case..Easy Peasy

I have to admit that I have a serious addiction.....to Fabric!! I know I am not alone. I can't help myself. I love all the different colors and prints. I try to limit myself and how much I spend on fabric. That brings me once again to my other addiction, garage sales...You can find some really good fabric at garage sales. Table clothes, curtains, bed sheets, all kinds of stuff.
This is a top sheet that I bought back in the fall. I loved the ruffle. (wow, I really need to learn how to take better pictures, sorry) You can't really see it but the color is a light green. Almost mint with white. It matches my bedroom perfectly. So the other night I thought I would make a pillow cover for one of the feather inserts that I had.
This pillow is about 3 feet long and 6-8 inches wide. I purchased a bunch of feather pillow inserts from a friend for $50. It came out to be between $4 and $5 a piece. Which is really cheap I think. Anyway, I laid the sheet out and decided how much I need to cut of the fabric. I wanted a ruffle on each end.
The first time around silly me was rushing and didn't think things through and ended up with one of the ruffles backwards...ugh!! Tear out and do again!! About and hour and a half later I had this...
A little blurry..ok a lot blurry
It was pretty easy and quick. I like projects that provide me with instant gratification. The lack of patience is my downfall. It fits across the bed perfect! I am in need of a new coverlet. I have some ideas rolling around in my head.....That can be very dangerous!

Any Ideas???

So here is a picture of the rosette heart that I made hanging on the screen. This is not the one from my lovers Grandmas chicken house. That one is hanging in the mudroom and this is in the living room.
This screen came from his aunt Janie's old farm house that she was gutting before she died. Long Story....
It is an old window screen. Pretty neat I think. It makes a great canvas to decorate for holidays and such. I haven't done anything to it since I took down all the Christmas stuff.
So I hung these cute hearts on it...
What do you think??? I think it still needs something.....hmmm. still thinking of what I could do. I have a sign I might hang above it to hide that ugly spot on the wall.
What happened was that when we moved in, the walls were that horrible dark, fake paneling with mauve trim and teal carpet...it was sooooo bad. The first thing we did was rip up the carpet, wood floors under neath, paint the walls and ceiling. I wasn't really sure what color to paint it so we just did a white with a little different white for the trim. We hung this huge gun cabinet on the wall for the first few years. My husbands uncle made it but seriously it was not my style. I finally got him to take it down but it took some of the paneling with it. I now want to paint it a tan or khaki color, but I have a few other projects that need finished first.  So this is what I have to work with for now.

I said all that to say this...HELP..any ides??? I like the hearts but it still needs something. The red vine thing is there because I never took it down and it rotates from room to room. So it is optional...
Thanks for listening to my ramblings!

Oh, I forgot to tell you about a giveaway over at 8-muddy boots! check it out!!

Happy Valentines Day!!

There are two people I want to talk about today...1.My Mom and 2. My Lover.
Today is my moms Birthday!! I will not reveal to the world her age, even though she probably wouldn't mind. I have the most amazing mom in the entire world!! So in honor of her, here are 10 reasons why I think she is the most wonderful mom ever!
  1. She put up with me in her house for 21 years
  2. She is always there for me when I need her
  3. She always says Yes when I call and say " Are you fixing dinner? Can I come?"
  4. She was a great homemaker as I was growing up
  5. She gave me great memories...and I don't just remember the bad ones...I remember the good ones too!
  6. She use to sing all the time when she would do dishes and it drove me crazy. Usually because it was Saturday morning while I was still in bed!!! This was before the dishwasher, which by the way they waited to get until I moved out....!
  7. She always made sure I ate breakfast...chipped beef and gravy yummy! She's a great cook.
  8. She loves me even though I'm not perfect...did I just admit that...never!!
  9. She was and is madly in love with my dad...for 40 years I might add
  10. She was and is a Godly example of a wife and mom.
There you have it...and may I say that was only 10. There are many more..I love you mom. Happy Birthday!
that's might girl with her kissable cheeks! Grandma can't resist!

Now on to the Man of my dreams who just so happens to be the Man I'm married!!

To day is a day to let that special person in your life know that you love them and that they are precious to you. For me that person is my husband. I thank the Lord for him every day. I am so thankful that God has chosen to bless me with being married to the best man on earth! He is a most wonderful gift from God. He is my best friend, companion, provider, confidante, and so much more...I can't imagine my life without him!He is perfect for me! He makes me laugh..oh does he make me laugh..I wish you knew!! I adore him and am so glad that I get to take care of him and be his wife. I am one lucky girl!!!
He's trying not to smile...
Again trying not to smile...seriously lover...is that necessary?
God made you for me and me for you..I'm so glad your my Valentine and always will be!!
Happy Valentines Day!!

The most wonderful Love story ever told...
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Sweets for my Sweeties

I am blessed to have 2 nieces and 4 nephews! That's just on my side of the family. My family are all coming over to night for dinner and to celebrate my Mom's Birthday! Her birthday is on Valentines Day! One of things that I love to do for my nieces and nephews is to make them little treat bags for special occasions. It's one of those things that's kinda special for them. So I made some up yesterday to give them tonight when they come over.
It's super easy and I enjoy it. It's fun to get out stamps, craft paper, and ribbons and play!
I had some little cellophane bags so I bought some candy, just a few different kinds, divided it up between the bags. The boys got glow in the dark truck stickers and my oldest niece got cute little paper clips. Mighty Quinn can't have candy or paper clips yet so she kinda got left out of this one! Maybe next year pretty girl!!
I cut some tags out of card stock and went to stamping! Added some ribbon and wallaaa!!
I use to do this all the time for kids when I use to teach Sunday school. It's just a fun little treat and it makes it special to come to Aunt Sarah Beth's house!!

Changing subjects a little bit... Here is the finished product made from the rosettes that I showed you earlier this week.
Just in time for Valentines Day!! I will be hanging it in my living room on an old screen from my hubby's Grandma's old Chicken house...I'll explain more on that later.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Favorite Things Friday....

Wow...Friday already. Time flies when your having fun!! So, I kinda had a hard time thinking of what to pick for this weeks Favorite Thing, but I was making a cake (a post for another day) for my mom's birthday and I finally decided on this....
EGGS!!! But not just any eggs. These are MY eggs from MY chickens. Not that I had anything to do with the girls actually producing these. But I take some pride in the fact that these beauties are home grown!!
I love the different colors. It reminds me of spring, which I have to say I am just about ready for.
So if you are not so lucky as to have your own chickens, then find someone local who does and see if they will sell you some eggs! They are worth the money!
Happy Weekend Everyone!!

P.S. All Things Vintage is have a cute giveaway check it out!!

To Paint or Not to Paint...

So I found this little chair/desk, I think of it like a telephone desk. I bought it a barn sell this past summer for $3. I thought it was so cute. Well it has been sitting around waiting patiently to be gussied (if that's a word) up a bit.
I am not sure what room to put it in. Either my bedroom or the living room. When I decide what color to paint it then i will pick a fabric for the seat!
So I would love to hear some suggestions! Let me know what you think..I also think white..I love white furniture but I really would like to put some color on this cutie. Maybe even do a antique/distressed look. I don't know so that's why I'm asking you!! Help a girl out!

P.S. Here is a great tutorial for fabric roses as i promised!

Fabric Roses

So this is a little something I have been working on the last few days. I have been making lots of these fabric roses for a cute craft that I will reveal in a few days! They are really easy, just a little time consuming when you need 28 of them...
I will post a great tutorial on how to make these in a few days as well!
You could make so many cute things with these little darlings!

Farm Kitchen Smells

When I think of an old farm kitchen, I think of home made goodness. You know, pies, cakes, cookies, breads, rolls, strawberry jam! The smell of goodies make my mouth water!
I love them all of course, but back in the day all that was done by hand and took time, patience, work. Now don't get me wrong I enjoy doing that from time to time. It is very rewarding to me. However, there are times when I want to have homemade bread for dinner and I've been at work all day and only have 3 hours to do so. That's when I pull this baby out ...
My Bread Machine...Works great!!
All I have to do is put in all the ingredients (water, flour, salt, yeast, sugar) into the machine and 3 hours later I have this...

And my house smells so yummy!!

There is nothing better than homemade bread with homemade strawberry jam. Which I happen to have! I could eat it all day long!!

So if you don't have a bread machine you should look into it. I am not sure how much these things cost. This one was given to me, but I have seen them time and time again at the goodwill and garage sales pretty cheap.

So go ahead and make yourself some homemade goodness. The hard way or the easy way. You can't beat it! It doesn't even compare to store bought!

P.S. Please ignore the messy kitchen counter. I was in the middle of making dinner (yummy pasta to go with the bread) which I will be posting the recipe for soon!

Favorite Things Friday....

I wouldn't consider myself a true collector but there are certain things I could just buy tons of, enamel ware of course, and Vintage Cake Carriers. I Love them!!!
They remind of church potlucks, ice cream socials, picnics in the summer time under a big shade tree...you know the time when women wore cute polka-dot dresses and heels everyday and would not go to town without a hat on..that brings me to this...
Cutest thing ever! My darling friend over at Winsome Cottage left this on my door step over Christmas! I was thrilled. It was a wonderful surprise. I had spied it in her shop and loved it, but refrained from purchasing it. How sweet of her. It made Christmas extra special!
It will hold a two layer cake and two pies, or three pies, or three single layer cakes!
I love the little green nob on top.
This one is super super cute too! My wonderful mom and dad gave this to me for my birthday a few years ago. I had spied this in a shop and they went back for it! This will hold a little larger cake. Round or square.
I love using these carriers! It's just a fun thing!! I hope you all enjoy the favorite things posts. Let me know what you think!
Happy Weekend!

A Kitchen from my dreams

So needless to say, my kitchen is a little, well, ugly, sad, depressing, dark. falling apart. You get the picture. We just haven't had the extra cash to gut it and remodel it. It will not be cheap..and we have had other projects going on. Some of which have lasted several years..
Anyway I found this blog and it is so darling!!! The kitchen in this house is straight from my dreams!! I Love it!! Check it out here at Meadowbrook Farm! If you go to the left side of the screen and look at the archives and find Junk House..That's it..I think you'll enjoy it!

P.S. If anyone ask..that kitchen would be a great gift idea for me!! I don't know maybe for Valentines Day. I'd even be willing to wait until my Birthday in September!!

Girls Weekend..

Wow, it seems like I've been gone forever!! But actually its only been three days since my last post. Well, this is where I've been..
Cabin in the Smokies
With a great view
I went down to Gatlinburg, Tn. for the weekend with a bunch of girls from my Sunday School class. It was a good time. We just relaxed, did some shopping, and ate junk food!
I have never left my lover to go away with the girls, so it wasn't easy for me. He has gone out of town for work (which I hate) but I had never left him before. I just miss him soooo much!! He is my best friend and I hate being without him! But I survived! I'm glad I went and spent time with my friends but I was glad to be home. It is a blessing to have such wonderful friends.
They are wearing party hats because it was my friend Melissa's Birthday! I'm taking this picture so I'm not in it, which is ok by me!
The mountains were beautiful! The weather was a sweatshirt perfect 6o degrees.
It made me long for Spring!! But instead I came home to icy rain and 30 degrees. That's ok I guess.
Well, I'm off to do laundry and cleaning! I'm so glad to be home....
